oatmeal cocoa nib cookies + hello fall giveaway

August 30, 2012

Update 09/05/12: Congratulations Megan and Alaine! Fun stuff coming your way!

Have you jumped on the cocoa nib bandwagon yet? If not, I urge you to find one to hop onto because cocoa nibs are crazy good.

They are the sort of product I can imagine making claims like “swirl them into your morning oatmeal to curb your chocolate cravings all day LONG!” or “toss them into your favorite salad instead of your usual boring pecans for an unexpected burst of flavor!” or “perfect for snacking – enjoy them by the handful straight out of the bag!”

Every time I hear this phrase “by the handful straight out of the bag” as an advertisement for snacking I always think to myself, isn’t “by the handful” the definition of snacking? How is that an acceptable hook? When have you ever put four chips on a plate and settled down in front of the TV for a nice long afternoon of enjoyable snacking. I can guarantee never.

Cocoa nibs are an exception because I am telling you that I could probably eat them by the handful straight out of the bag. Cocoa nibs are what you think healthy chocolate should taste like. I mean we all know we should have a thimble full of red wine and a small square of dark chocolate everyday for the antioxidants but let’s just say that a handful of cocoa nibs makes the açaí berry look like a Taco Bell.

All jokes aside, they are wonderful in baking. They are not too sweet, and almost a cross between a chocolate chip and a nut if you can wrap your brain around that. I made these super simple oatmeal cookies and replaced the chocolate chips with cocoa nibs and now they are practically guilt free. Just kidding! But they are chewy in the middle, crispy on the outside, full of oaty goodness and bursting with chocolate flavor!

But guess what! You have a chance to win your very own cocoa nibs plus a whole bunch of other fun stuff. Because summer is just about, almost – please don’t say it is so – over I decided I should probably give away some free stuff so we can all get excited for fall.

But double guess what? I am giving away not one but TWO of these gift bags! Each includes:

  • the BAKINGMAKESFRIENDS tote bag (!!!)
  • one 8-ounce tin of cocoa nibs
  • a super cute cookie cutter set I found in Prague this summer
  • a wooden spoon from France (one can never have enough)
  • one bottle of essie nail polish in a list red (or my favorite color in case you were wondering)
  • sparkling sugar (because I have been talking it up lately and it makes everything fancy)

All you have to do to enter the giveaway is leave a comment on this post.

Let me know what your favorite memory was this summer. Or what you are looking forward to most about fall. Or follow me on Twitter or Facebook and then say hi in the comments!

The comments will close on Tuesday, September* 4th at 11:59 p.m. (EST). Good luck!

*OMG! How is it September already?!?

Oatmeal Cocoa Nib Cookies
Makes about 2 dozen cookies

1 stick (8 tablespoons or 113 grams) butter, room temperature
1/2 cup (100 grams) brown sugar
1/2 cup (112 grams) sugar
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) vanilla
1 cup (125 grams) flour
1 cup (140 grams) old-fashioned rolled oats

1/2 teaspoon (2 grams) baking powder
1/2 teaspoon (2 grams) salt
1 cup (120 grams) cocoa nibs

Transfer to a rack to let cool completely.

Ahhh I really really want to try cocoa nibs now……You made me curious 😀
My favourite memory this summer was all the blueberries I ate this one week when they were super cheap……

Julie De Meester August 30, 2012 at 3:25 am

wow there. Now, I have no idea what cocoa nibs are. Seriously. We don’t have them in Belgium . Pretty sad for the country that; like, invented chocolate, right? (well, we might have). So I feel it is imperative they should go my way. (Please)

also my family is addicted to chocolate and even if I bake something very non-chocolatey I sneak in some bits in at least half the batch just to make sure it’ll all be gone. cocoa nibs seem like a good way to do this

also I’m almost out of red nail polish. NOOOOO!

did I add ‘please’ yet?

ps cookies look awesome. on my sunday to do checklist

mira August 30, 2012 at 11:46 am

going to the cottage!

Nanna August 30, 2012 at 6:13 am

I’ve been meaning to jump on the cocoa nib wagon for months and month but for some reason I always reach for the chocolate chips instead. These cookies look delish though and I can’t wait to try the recipe!

I’m due to have a baby next week (my first, yikes!) and I guess that’s the most exciting thing on my agenda. I had to leave Brooklyn for my home country (Iceland) to have it (no U.S. health insurance) and I miss BK like crazy. Can’t wait to get back in November.

Cheri @ The Watering Mouth August 30, 2012 at 6:35 am

Omg, this prize look so amazing!!

My favorite thing about this past summer was all the rain we get down here in Florida! I just love thunderstorms!!

Thanks for the chance to enter the giveaway!

ileana August 30, 2012 at 7:45 am

Oh, this sounds like my kind of cookie! That giveaway looks great, too. Would love to wear that red nail polish this fall as it (hopefully) gets cooler here in Florida. I want to wear boots and drink hot chocolate. 🙂

penny August 30, 2012 at 8:29 am

Totally my kind of cookie. The oats make them healthy….

Kaysey August 30, 2012 at 8:33 am

Never had cocoa nibs before…..definitely interested. Looking forward to the the cooler weather that comes with fall 🙂

Sonja August 30, 2012 at 9:15 am

I have to admit – I’m another one of those commenting for the chance to get that lovely prize (the tote bag sounds absolutely darling!). I also have to admit this is my first time hearing about cocoa nibs – something that can be substituted for chocolate and is healthy – must be good!

Summer is still far from over here in Tokyo so I can’t really sound all nostalgic about my favourite summer moment yet. But, if I had to choose from all that’s happened so far, I’d probably say it was buying an ice-cream maker, labouring over what flavour to make, and watching it churn away. Nothing beats the joy of home-made ice-cream, especially for the first time, and especially in this humid, hot summer!

Sally H August 30, 2012 at 9:41 am

Looks delicious and perfect for fall. Love your pictures! 🙂

Brianna Wachter August 30, 2012 at 10:02 am

These look fantastic! I *love* oatmeal and chocolate.

Okay, favorite summer memory…hmm…probably spending time on the Maryland shore with friends. It is a beautiful place (I’m a sucker for the water) and everything’s better when you get to do it with friend, right?

Rhianna August 30, 2012 at 10:04 am

Fourth of July picnic in Prospect Park!

Julieta August 30, 2012 at 10:11 am

I can´t believe can win one of this. I would be happy with only one of the thing in the bag.
I want to eat one of the photos, the cookies look so good.
I´m excpecting the summer to start early, as I live in Argentina, we´re having some warm days right now.

Thanks for the giveaway!

Donna August 30, 2012 at 10:14 am

The cookies look wonderful! As much as I love summer, I’m looking forward to September and an overseas trip to Scotland.

Ashley M. August 30, 2012 at 10:19 am

I’ve been skeptical about cocoa nibs but I might have to try them now! I am looking forward to my friend’s wedding in Sept and then my golden birthday in October! Yay Autumn!!!

Adin August 30, 2012 at 10:27 am

Cocoa nibs always remind me of the one guy in our design major that was very weird and also very into Kombucha, but I have made an effort to not let this taint my perception of their subtle cocoa-y goodness. I really should try incorporating them into my baking more regularly – thanks for the inspiration!

Jody August 30, 2012 at 10:51 am

Best part of summer: swimming in Barton Springs on 100 degree days
Looking forward to in Fall: dining outdoors again without mosquitoes/heatstroke

Elizabeth (Borg) August 30, 2012 at 10:57 am

My favoite memory of the summer was having bloody marys with a very talented baker/blogger when she visited DC!

Wicked Goodies August 30, 2012 at 11:03 am

Great recipe! I love cocoa nibs – I am totally on the bandwagon. I’ve been using nibs in icecream but didn’t think to add them to my cookies. Thanks for the tip!

JeannieRichard August 30, 2012 at 11:06 am

*Scream* Everything you do is just deliciously divine!
Been following you for some time now and this is giveaway is just fabulous!
Definitely make a great entry to our new home in a couple of week 😀
Being that singapore is summer 365 – we definitely look forward to cooler days ahead.
With more rain to enjoy, these nib cookies with a warm chai or chocolate is an absolute cozy pastime with my darling ~ XO!

Juli August 30, 2012 at 11:10 am

I travel often for work, but usually I find myself in Chicago or the northeast in January or February – not so fun. This summer I was actually able to enjoy many beautiful days in both Chicago and Boston and thought – ah, this is why people love these cities! I always make a point to find incredible food = but it’s nice to have the gorgeous weather to go along with it.

Edu August 30, 2012 at 11:17 am

I ‘d love to have the bag! is great. This summer will be my last summer in Brooklyn. I enjoyed the picnics and concerts at my park, the prospect park.

nikki August 30, 2012 at 11:31 am

Favorite memory from the summer? Tasting and photographing all kinds of ice cream. Definitely a lot of fun.

Sandy August 30, 2012 at 11:31 am

Those cookies look wonderful! Hmmm … my grandchildren might like them with some tea the next time they come over! I’m off to follow you on Twitter now. 🙂

xq August 30, 2012 at 11:33 am

ooh look how perfect your cookies are! yum.

Sandy August 30, 2012 at 11:33 am

Oops! Forgot about the memory! (Talk about irony …) My favorite memory this summer was the fantastic meal my husband and I shared at Mama’s Fish House during our cruise in the Hawaiian Islands. OMG — it was *so* good! And the mango crème brûlée was to die for — wish I could get that recipe!

Loretta August 30, 2012 at 11:40 am

My favorite summer memory was watching my daughter play in the waves of Lake Michigan. I’m really looking forward to jeans, sweatshirts, and scarves when the fall weather arrives!

Anne August 30, 2012 at 11:43 am

My summer memory and fall anticipation both involve canning seasonal fruit.

Nothing says “summer” quite like those delicious little gems, wild Maine blueberries, and I put up jars and jars of them in light syrup and, of course, some blueberry jam.

The apples are coming in early this year, so it won’t be long before I’m making applesauce and its byproducts, apple butter and apple jelly.

Jackie August 30, 2012 at 11:45 am

I’m looking forward to my baby’s first birthday and all the baking I get to do during the fall 🙂 what’s Fall without baking anyways?!

Ariel August 30, 2012 at 11:55 am

Back to school shopping. It may seem nerdy but getting some new outfits always gives me a little boost of confidence just in time to head back. These cookies look fantastic and I can’t wait to give them a try. Cocoa nibs also sounds like a good way to sneak a nutty taste into a cookie without the nuts. I love the extra crunch it gives to a soft cookie!

Emily August 30, 2012 at 12:03 pm

I’m looking forward to buttery, rich sauces, wool scarves and socks, and crisp Autumn light. Can’t wait to catch up when you’re back!

Zillah August 30, 2012 at 12:06 pm

My favorite thing this summer was picking 10 pounds of blueberries in under an hour. And then eating them all over a course of a week.

Stacy August 30, 2012 at 12:11 pm

Lillie, I can’t recall how I stumbled upon your blog, but I don’t think I’ve commented before. I am a fan!

And: I cannot believe summer is over either; it has been a crazy one for me. I got married and moved to California from Michigan. The wedding is surely high on the list of good memories, but perhaps just as lovely were smaller moments — time with family, meals with friends. The stuff of summer. Happy fall!!

elizabeyta August 30, 2012 at 12:27 pm

I had not thought of adding cocoa nibs to oatmeal cookies. Could be good!

Helen August 30, 2012 at 12:31 pm

My favorite thing about this summer was staying in bed reading in the morning and not having to wake up early to make breakfast, pack a lunch and get my son off to school.

Jennifer Wilson August 30, 2012 at 12:36 pm

Hi there – I have met you before… I used to rent from Andy and Sarah Etue in Chehalis! I think you were at some birthday party or other at their house one year. Anyway, I started following your blog after Sarah mentioned you were in the running for best baking blog at Saveur. Congratulations on winning! Enjoy your blog so much – and it is even more fun to read since I *kinda* know you! Oh, and fave summer memory? first cherry tomatoes from the garden…

Jasmine @ Savory & Sweet-Hearts August 30, 2012 at 12:49 pm

My favorite memory this summer was marrying the love of my life! :]
I’m planning on making oatmeal cookies tomorrow to send to my sister who’s starting her senior year at Carnegie Mellon University, but unfortunately she’s not very adventurous and will only eat ones with M & M’s! I’ll have to try out these cocoa nibs for myself another time! Thanks for sharing! Enjoyed reading this post :]

Betsy August 30, 2012 at 1:15 pm

My favorite memories of the summer have involved a rooftop in the West Village, a glass of wine, good friends, and usually something chocolate-y.

That being said, I’m REALLY looking forward to fall, since my pale Irish skin burns after spending 10 minutes outside. I can’t wait to use my sunscreen budget on something more exciting!

Christa August 30, 2012 at 1:54 pm

Best part of summer this year has been hanging out in the grass with my one year old. It’s been so fun to watch him learn and explore.

Ally August 30, 2012 at 2:22 pm

The best part of summer was probably exploring some botanical gardens with my mother. I always love Mom and Daughter days (:

Eliza Blanchard August 30, 2012 at 2:47 pm

My happiest summer memory? Browsing – or grazing, rather- the farmer’s market in Great Barrington with my grown son and his girlfriend. Cheeses, cauliflowers in three colors, yellow mushrooms, heaps of fresh bread, and fuzzy peaches. We overbought, and guess what, it all got eaten! And of course it was good, very good.

Your blog makes me feel the happiest. Your charming pictures, your fun approach to life (We should all be baking food for picnics all year long!), and your sensible approach to baking inspire me. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Sandy August 30, 2012 at 2:54 pm

Love your blog and all you do
Thank you!!

Eileen @ Ham Pie Sandwiches August 30, 2012 at 3:04 pm

Oh man, these cookies sound great! I could eat one right now. 🙂 I think my favorite memory of this summer is our 4th of July trip to Portland (OR), which included an amazing evening of eating as many raspberries as humanly possible while watching the fireworks reflect off the river.

Natalie Lee August 30, 2012 at 3:15 pm

I really enjoyed the weather we had this summer alot better then last year!

Moriah August 30, 2012 at 3:26 pm

I love all your recipes and everything I have made has turned out great.

My fondest memories of this summer were the “French Naps” (http://sewnandheard.blogspot.com/2012/08/french-nap.html) I took with my sister at home at our farm in Wisconsin (http://moriahsmidwest.com/image/28020037268) and when I was visiting her in Asheville. Being with the people I love, in the sun, drinking wine…perfect.

I love your blog!

claudia August 30, 2012 at 3:54 pm

honestly? just drinking wine on the lawn with my friends! best summer activity 🙂

Jess W. August 30, 2012 at 3:57 pm

One of my fave memories of the summer: getting in to BK very late and walking up to a certain stoop in Carroll Gardens where an certain tipsy friend was waiting to welcome me HOME!

kristen l August 30, 2012 at 4:32 pm

favorite memory of the summer:
sipping sparkling homemade lemonade in a beautiful san francisco apartment in the mission district with a gorgeous view of twin peaks. it was a perfect evening among friends at a lovely dinner party- best of all my tres leches coconut cake that i brought was a hit!

also these cookies look delicious– i love cacao nibs and put them in my oatmeal with cinnamon every morning 🙂

Juliet August 30, 2012 at 5:10 pm

It will be so cool if I walk around campus with bakingmakesfriends tote bag 🙂

Also, the heart shape cookie cutter is too cute.

Lauren August 30, 2012 at 5:24 pm

My favorite memory of this summer was accidentally disturbing a nest of skink eggs in my garden compost pile, then getting to see the baby skinks a couple weeks later. I was so worried that mama skink might have abandoned the eggs after I disturbed them!

Sylvie August 30, 2012 at 5:26 pm

I’ve heard about cocoa nibs, but have yet to try them in my cooking. This recipe is so simple that I want to attempt these cookies. It’s not summer in my part of the world but I know that with the forthcoming summer where I am my favorite thing will be as always the sense of freedom that accompanies summer.

Jenna Z August 30, 2012 at 5:41 pm

We had a truly memorable trip to Mass. this summer. We went whale watching, stayed in a dreamy vacation rental and spent lazy nights listening to the rain through the open windows!

Sarah August 30, 2012 at 5:45 pm

My favourite memory…hard to say as I’ve spent most of the time in the library writing my master theses not enjoying the summer. What I’m looking forward to in fall? Much easier: Going to New York and California in October for the first time in my life and eating tons of cacoa nibs (which I don’t know either because we don’t have them in Germany, sad for the country next to the countries that practically invited chocolate!)

Stacie August 30, 2012 at 6:09 pm

MMMMMM! These look amazing!!!!

What I’m most looking forward to this fall is getting warmed up from the inside with soups and just -baked cookies and breads!

Sonja August 30, 2012 at 6:44 pm

I have no idea what cocoa nibs are but I will be finding out soon because I will be trying this recipe.

Kristin August 30, 2012 at 7:04 pm

My favorite memory this summer was making 200+ cupcakes for my friend’s wedding! This was my biggest baking challenge ever, but I had a ton of fun. A close runner up was starting a small garden in the backyard… we are now overwhelmed with zucchini and tomatoes, not a bad problem to have 🙂

Kay August 30, 2012 at 7:26 pm

This summer’s favorite memory was an evening of blueberry picking with my mother, followed by gathering plums from the courtyard of our building and baking 3 trays of fruit crisps (savored with cardamom ice cream, my newest obsession … hopefully to be replaced with cocoa nibs!).

Lisa August 30, 2012 at 7:31 pm

Until I win (a girl can hope, can’t she?) I am on the hunt for cocoa nibs and I am making these cookies ASAP. (I’m in Theo’s home town, so I imagine I can hunt them down.)

Aly August 30, 2012 at 8:01 pm

Great prizes! Also a great recipe! I haven’t used nibs yet for cooking, just for munching. 🙂

Aly August 30, 2012 at 8:02 pm

Oh, and since I can’t follow directions…I am looking forward to the seasons changing and seeing the leaves turn colors. So pretty!

ana m August 30, 2012 at 8:05 pm

This summer’s favourite memory has to be our long weekends spent at Prince Edward County in Ontario hanging out at the beach watching my 5 year old and his dad build sand castles -Gaudi style.
Love love love this recipe! Yeah for chocolate!

katherine August 30, 2012 at 8:07 pm

I lovelovelove cacao nibs! Put them in homemade coffee ice cream just today! Cookie recipe looks great!

Whitney August 30, 2012 at 8:23 pm

Yum – my fave thing to do with nibs is put them in brittle!! My fave memory of the summer has been going to Vancouver with my husband, we celebrated our first wedding anniversary! So many quirky little cocktail bars, and delicious restaurants!

Sarah August 30, 2012 at 8:42 pm

I can’t really wrap my head around what exactly a cocoa nib is, but I’m now officially intrigued. My favorite thing about this past summer was camping and white water rafting (last weekend!), but I’m looking forward to fall for pumpkin-flavored everything. I’ve already made pumpkin pies this week.

Maria A August 30, 2012 at 8:55 pm

The oatmeal cocoa nib cookies look absolutely delicious!!! Can’t wait to try your recipe. My favorite summer memory from this summer is from the beautiful island of Santorin, Greece. Every year we visit family in Greece and pick a new island to visit. This year we met friends on the island of Santorini. All 14 of us rented a catamaran and spent an entire day on the boat. We docked and went swimming at different beaches and saw the amazing sunset on the boat! Unforgettable !!

Julie August 30, 2012 at 9:11 pm

My favorite memory this summer was a Sunday evening BBQ with friends, we did steak, tuna and vegies on the grill, lots of yummy sides and a great white wine sangria was served . The evening was warm, we strung lights overhead, the playlist was perfect, we laughed and talked til late into the evening. It was so much fun…we did it three more times over the summer.
One of my friends was thanking me and exclaiming about “how much work I did”, but it never seems like work when you are cooking fo people you love and enjoying their laughter and company,
Food is love.

Rachel August 30, 2012 at 9:32 pm

I’ve never had cocoa nibs before but my family are chocoholics so I’m totally willing to try them this fall. That’s one of the things I’m looking foward to this fall. Also, my birthday is in November, super excited!!! My favorite thing this summer was spending the summer evenings with my nice neighbors:) I love your blog!

Yvonne August 30, 2012 at 9:56 pm

These look amazing!!!

Dana August 30, 2012 at 10:02 pm

Ive never nibbed it up before! Will use this recipe the next time I make cookies!!

Ofelia August 30, 2012 at 10:25 pm

Jordan D August 30, 2012 at 10:38 pm

Oooohhh I love cocoa nibs! I’m looking forward to the scents of fall, especially pumpkin and cinnamon. I love pumpkin everything and am dying for a pumpkin martini or pumpkin beer…it’ll have to wait until after Labor Day though haha

Rennie August 30, 2012 at 11:02 pm

I’m looking forward to apple-picking and baking apple pies this fall!

Patty August 30, 2012 at 11:08 pm

My favorite memory of the summer was my birthday weekend at a B & B with my husband and my 2 married children and their spouses. Precious family time together!!!

Carolyn August 31, 2012 at 12:05 am

These look fantastic! I love oatmeal cookies. And as much fun as I’ve had this summer, I’m really excited to be able to wear some of my fall sweaters 🙂

Fall is my favorite time of year! I’m ready to start baking… and I can’t wait to try this recipe- oatmeal cookies are my favorite.

Jenny August 31, 2012 at 10:20 am

Wow, thanks so much! I discovered your blog this past summer, so that has been pretty great :). My favorite summer memory is walking across the Williamsburg bridge for the first time with one of my best friends who’d recently gotten engaged…after stuffing our faces at Smorgasburg! And very much looking forward to fall so they can nix the extreme a/c in the subways! xx

Brian Myers Cooper August 31, 2012 at 11:52 am

Cocoa nibs for chips. Nice. I’ve been throwing them in vodka with a vanilla bean for that Oreo infused effect.

My folks came to visit this summer. First time in the twenty-three years I’ve lived in NYC . It was a true highlight, not just of the summer. I made my Berry Bread Pudding (mytinykitchen.us) and took them to see Peter and the Starcatcher and Jersey Boys. It was a memorable visit on every account!

Tania August 31, 2012 at 2:49 pm

My favorite memory this summer was the music festival I went to with friends on the southern coast of Norway. Gorgeous surroundings, amazing seafood and a wonderful time with friends!

Cool Dude August 31, 2012 at 6:45 pm

Lills, give me my cocoa nibs!

erin in oregon September 1, 2012 at 12:07 am

Great giveaway. Looking forward to the cool fall weather! Feels like it’s already here in Boston….

Kari September 1, 2012 at 1:43 pm

Love your blog! And love, love, love chocolate! I find the advice to eat one square of chocolate a day hilarious. I eat handfuls of chocolate a day. Can’t wait to try cocoa nibs. And what I’m most looking forward to about fall is being able to bake all I want without making the kitchen excruciatingly hot.

Nicole September 1, 2012 at 2:35 pm

These look delicious! And anything from Theo Chocolate is amazing (have you tried the Bread & Chocolate bars??). What am I looking forward to this fall? Pumpkin and spice everything.

Kathy Eyre September 1, 2012 at 3:16 pm

Teaching my friend to can tomatos

Shaara September 1, 2012 at 4:29 pm

I can’t wait to try these cookies. I made the buttermilk bunt cake today instead!
Thanks for the amazing recipes!

Lynett September 1, 2012 at 6:21 pm

Hi! I just heard about your site through a friend whom you met on your trip to Seattle. I was excited because you have ‘butter’ in your web address but then I was giddy when I saw your latest post for oatmeal + cocoa nib cookies! Oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are my FAVORITE and these sound so decadent! I threw a tea party this summer for my girlfriends and these would have been great have! Guess I’ll have to another party 🙂

Bowen September 1, 2012 at 7:14 pm

I toured the Theo factory last month and those nibs are amazing! Would love to get some for baking (and snacking).

Josephine September 1, 2012 at 8:01 pm

Stephanie September 1, 2012 at 10:07 pm

My favorite memory of the summer…kids eating otter pops & chocolate milk while on vacation at the river. Then coming home and sampling BMUB’s delicious goods. baking truly does make friends!

Ttrockwood September 1, 2012 at 11:21 pm

My favorite part of fall is my birthday!! I always buy myself a self indulgent gift!

Jess September 2, 2012 at 10:47 am

My favorite memory of the summer: biking to the farmers market with my four-year-old (while dad and baby brother slept at home), sitting on a ledge, “sharing” a pint of blackberries, and people-watching.

Ana September 2, 2012 at 12:42 pm

These cookies look fantastic – adding them to my ever-growing list of to-try baked treats!

Best summer memory – wild mushroom foraging with my sister and cousins. We ate an entire watermelon and had to race back to the car to beat a hail storm.

allie September 2, 2012 at 1:54 pm

I’m gonna try this one. Best thing about summer is the heat.

Colleen September 2, 2012 at 2:14 pm

Eeee! Can’t wait to try cocoa nibs and to see what mark thinks 🙂

Amanda September 2, 2012 at 4:38 pm

The best thing about fall coming is THE FOOD. The squash, the pumpkin seeds, cinnamon, nutmeg, apple cider, warm soups…. YUM! I love it all.

meredith September 2, 2012 at 5:22 pm

I’m looking forward to carving pumpkins this fall – and cooking the seeds!

Elena V September 2, 2012 at 8:42 pm

Yes, sparkling sugar makes everything better, I put it on freshly baked blondies and served them at a small tea gathering for friends. The humble blondies , as a result, looked quite fancy!

I am so excited the fall season is almost here. My favorite part is taking a walk in the evening at a local park and breathing in all the wonderful scents of the trees, the grass, and the fallen leaves… thank you for the generous giveaway and the beautiful pictures.

favorite memory of summer…teaching my boyfriend how to make crepes.

Betsey September 2, 2012 at 9:02 pm

My favorite summer memory is spending time with my husband on our beautiful screened porch eating fresh corn on the cob, tomatoes and basil and sipping an ice-cold beverage.
For fall, I am looking forward to more baking, especially cocoa nib oatmeal cookies!

Helping my niece make cookies for the county fair. Watching her take them to the Nebraska State Fair and winning a purple there! Someone to share my love of baking with 🙂

After spending my summer in brooklyn and discovering all those delicious bakeries you got there, I’m really happy I found your blog and can bring your amazing recipes with me to berlin. Thanks a lot!

My favorite memory was our family vacation – we ran around disney for 3 days with the kids and felt like we were kids again ourselves – so much fun!

Great early fall give away and the cookies sound delicious. My favorite memory of the summer was picking up my boys from their summer camp in northern Ontario. They go away for the entire summer to spend it running rapids and living outdoors. The look on their faces when they see us for the first time in six weeks is priceless.

These cookies look delish!
Favorite summer memory?Hard to pick. Perhaps the trip to Boston with the kids. I love that city.

These look sooooo good!

I can’t wait for “fall” to finally come around and for the temperatures to go down. Living in the desert makes you sweat!
Also, I will see my father for the first time in 8 years and he’ll finally meet his two grandsons 🙂

My fav summer memory is of yesterday evening, when our power finally came back on after 5 days of New Orleans August heat and humidity. Thanks, Hurricane Isaac. We celebrated at a tiny french restaurant with champagne and cheese boards with incredible horseradish fig mustard!

The cookies look delicious! I have been reluctant to try cocoa nibs but may have to give them a shot if I win 🙂

I am most looking forward to falling leaves swirling in the wind. Fall is my favorite season!

These cookies look so perfect – oatmeal cookies are my favourite and I usually think its sacrilege to have anything but raisins in them, but I’m intrigued by the cocoa nibs.

Lots of great summer memories, but I secretly can’t wait for fall since my husband and I are taking our first vacation to Napa and San Francisco!

Fingers crossed for the giveaway. Thank you!

My favorite memory of the summer was sitting on the porch with my family through all of the heat and enjoying delicious tomatoes fresh out of the garden.

I forgot I had a bag of cocoa nibs stashed in the back of the pantry. Thanks for the reminder! I’m most looking forward to lighting up the fireplace this fall and enjoying an afternoon next to it with a book, hot tea, and cookies!

Fave memory: getting hitched and seeing your pretty face out in the crowd! What I’m looking forward to is all the pumpkin recipes that I can start making without feeling like a weirdo. And that the wedding diet is over so I can start looking on here again more often!
