I’ve been making too many cookies lately. Ice cream is the answer.
Ice cream is always the answer, trust me.
“Um, honey. So, I sort of don’t know what happened. I was playing inside Nerf basketball, and I may have broke your antique lamp…but…I got ice cream.”
What lamp? See.

Dilemmas. What is the best investment strategy? How do I find a good dental plan? What do I do with leftover pie dough scraps?
I don’t have all the answers to real life problems, but I do know what to do with those pie scraps. Make these!
One can only make so many cinnamon sugar twists, and no one wants to throw out those little bits of yum. Bite-size pie is the answer. Be a recessionista. Waste nothing.

Turns out when you start a blog, you have know a bit more about computers than just how to turn it on. Good thing I have nice people who help me with the crazy stuff. Cookies = thank you.

I had the best it’s-really-fall-and-there-is-no-turning-back-now idea today. Pumpkin snickerdoodles!!!
Riiight?
Wow, these genius food ideas come out of no where sometimes!
Oh wait, what is that you say Internet? 1.8 billion people have already thought of that combo. Mmmkay. Well, at least I’m not alone in the need for cookies that validate the fact that all my sundresses will be replaced by sweaters soon because it’s going to be cold for seven months. Sad face.

Huckleberries are gold in the Pacific Northwest. They grow for a short window in the summer, only above a certain altitude, and they must be picked by hand. Picking huckleberries doesn’t happen on a farm. Nope. Try up a mountain in the middle of nowhere.

Cookies make most things better. Even good-byes to my most favorite of lady friends.
Saying good-bye is no fun, so I’m going to go ahead and get real for a second – the sprinkles are required for these cookies. Sprinkles are the reason this cookie made it. It is a tough world out there, and sprinkles are proof that it doesn’t take much to show off a little. These cookies are like, “Hey look, I put a fascinator on and now I look fancy.” Plus, when it comes down to it, it really is the small things, and by that I mean that teeny tiny dishes are the cutest things ever.

Granita is hands-down one of the easiest things to make. And, it also tastes like a fluffy popsicle. Double win.
Most anything that can be a popsicle can also be a granita. It’s like the poor man’s frozen treat – no fancy molds required.

Hurricane Irene came and went a few weeks ago. The evening was, at least for us in Brooklyn, an excuse to stock up on essentials such as
booze water. And, since we were going to a hurricane party (or what turned into a drinking wine and watching
really heavy rain party) I wanted to bake some thing that could be easily transported, and finish up the last bit of buttermilk in the fridge. Hello, chocolate loaf cake!

Anything mini is pretty cool. So are baking leftovers. I used the dough from the
brown sugar poppy seed cookies (minus poppy seeds) as a crust for these mini tarts, and added some jam as a filling.
It turns out that mini tarts taste exactly like giant thumbprint cookies; both of which are delicious.

This cocktail began like most of my kitchen ideas, and not related to cooking at all. I found this awesome green ice bucket at a stoop sale for a dollar. Let me tell you, there is nothing more classy for a cocktail than an ice bucket. Owning an ice bucket also means that I am one step closer to being a real adult. A retirement plan is step one.
One of the first cocktails that I learned to make was an old-fashioned. Actually, we decided to make them that summer because my dad had purchased a muddler, and we had a whole set of old-fashioned glasses from my grandparents (clearly, it must run in the family)!
